Erasmus+ Course

Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development in Schools

Environmental education (EE) helps connect us to the world around us by teaching us about natural as well as built environments and raising our consciousness about issues that impact the environment we all depend on, as well as ways we can improve and protect it.

Students from any specialization are welcome to this course, as well as anyone interested in learning about the science behind natural and manmade places of interest (e.g. National Parks, museums, eco-farms, city historic centers, archaeological sites, nature trails, botanic gardens).

The following benefits of environmental education can be found among youths, educators, personnel in schools and communities:

  1. A hands-on, interactive learning environment fosters creativity and ignites imagination. In this way, the imagination and enthusiasm are sparked.
  2. Experiential learning in the outdoors, connecting social, ecological, economic, cultural, and political issues in the real world.
  3. Participants are encouraged to research and investigate how and why things happen as well as to make their own decisions about complex environmental issues in order to develop critical and creative thinking skills. Through the process, a new generation of informed consumers, workers, as well as policymakers and decision-makers will emerge.
